Definition of a Wall in Drywall Industry
First of all, when we talk about a “wall”, we immediately think of the walls of a room. However, in construction area a wall represents much more and can be used for different reasons.
The Facade
The facade is the front of a building. In other words, it represents the exterior wall. Therefore, it plays not only an aesthetic role, but also, it offers protection against bad weather by providing an important part of the insulation.
Load-Bearing Walls
Load-bearing walls are intended to support the frame and the structure of the floors of a building. In other words, it is thanks to the load-bearing walls that we can guarantee the solidity of the building.
Partition Walls
Partition walls (or interior walls) are vertical walls that allow us to modify the volume of a room. Either by dividing the space or adding additional rooms, this is where we lay plasterboards most of the time.
Recognize a Quality Wall Before Applying Gypsum Boards
In advance of handling plasterboards, it is necessary to check the condition of the wall in which the boards will be implemented.
That’s why, we invite you to follow the next steps:
Step 1: Cleanliness of the Wall Surface
First of all, we must ensure that the surface of the walls is clean. This means that if necessary, we must not hesitate to thoroughly clean the dirt, whether it is dust or mold. Also, it is obviously necessary to remove the wallpaper if there is any.
Step 2: Verticality of the Wall
Then, using a spirit level, we always check the plumb and leveling of the wall in order to control the verticality of the wall.
Step 3: Solidity of the Wall
In addition, we must ensure the solidity of the wall to confirm its good condition. Thus, if there are holes and cracks, we invite you to repair and fill them using a joint filler. The goal is to obtain a smooth wall for the realization of the covering.
Step 4: Humidity and Moistures of the Wall
Finally, we need to check for traces of moisture and mold if necessary. After that, we can select the appropriate plasterboards (moisture resistant gypsum boards in that case).
